Mandate of the Special Representative

The Special Representative’s task is to focus and strengthen diplomatic activities in the region. He is thus a high-level contact point for the international community.

When attending the 2009 Munich Security Conference, Richard Holbrooke, the predecessor of Marc Grossman, the current US Special Envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan, had asked international partners to appoint contact points for him to work with.
